Overview

SEA Game Jam is a 36-hour game jam organized by IGDA Malaysia held in conjunction with Level UP KL 2016, whereby game developers from South East Asia region will be working together to create games in a collaborative environment following a theme.

Location : Makespace, Kuala Lumpur (www.makespace.my)
Capacity : 100 pax

Winning Prizes

1. RM8000 for the winning team
2. RM5000 for the winning team
3. RM3000 for the winning team
All individual winners will receive an Oculus Gear VR as well.
*The organizer reserves the right to substitute any non-monetary prizes with items of equal or greater value.

Bonus Prize : Alpha Startups: Game Pre-Accelerator

Additionally, the top teams also stand a chance to have their games commercialized via the upcoming Alpha Startups: Game Pre-Accelerator programme by Media Prima Labs and 1337 Ventures. Teams stand a chance to receive additional funding to further improve the demo and undergo mentoring in areas of Game Design, Development and the Business side of Games. Successful teams that undergo the pre-accelerator would also receive further marketing funds to launch a crowdfunding campaign of which Media Prima Labs would fund a portion of the amount being raised if certain targets are met. More information on this would be announced during SEA Game Jam itself.

Travel Allowance

All participants from outside Malaysia are eligible for travel allowance reimbursement up to RM300 by providing receipt of payment for travel transportation (e.g. flight ticket and etc).

Rules

By applying to the SEA Game Jam, you confirm that you have read and agree to the official rules and terms, including the use of your name and country of origin information for the purpose of Level UP KL 2016 and SEA Game Jam.

Eligibility

Open to all individual game developers from South East Asia region (18 years and above). All participations is under individual capacity without any representation of any legal entity related to the participant such as companies, institutions, organizations and etc.

Selection

The selection process will be through an selection panel of approximately three (3) to seven (7) jurors appointed by the organizer. Members of the selection panel may include independent and professional game developers, notable video game journalists, and other individuals familiar with video game design, and will be chosen for their professional specialization or other suitability for the selection process.

Team Formation

Team will be formed through random selection to create a good mixture of participants from different country. Each team will have balance number of game designer, game artist and game programmers with the size of 5 per team.

Submission

All submission must be made before the deadline as per announce through event briefing.

Intellectual Property

As between the organizer and the Participant, the Participant has and retains all intellectual and proprietary rights in and to the entry that Participant had at time of submission of the entry and Participant’s agreement and acceptance SEA Game Jam Terms and Conditions. Without limiting the Terms and Conditions of the SEA Game Jam, as a condition of entry, Participant grants the organizer a perpetual, irrevocable, worldwide, royalty-free, and non-exclusive license to use, reproduce, publicly perform, publicly display and create a derivative work from, any entry in whole or in part that Participant submits to this SEA Game Jam for the purposes of allowing the organizer to test and evaluate the entry for purposes of this SEA Game Jam, to administer the technical and other requirements of the SEA Game Jam including distribution of the entry for judging and prize award verification.

Termination

The organizer reserves the right to cancel, terminate, modify, or suspend the Game Jam in its sole and absolute discretion if the Game Jam becomes technically corrupted or is not capable of being run as planned, including infections by computer virus, bugs, tampering, unauthorized intervention, fraud, technical failures or any other causes beyond the control of organizer that corrupt or affect the administration, security, fairness, integrity, or proper conduct of the Game Jam. In such event, organizer will post notice at the official website and will implement an alternate means for awarding all prizes.

Release and Indemnification

By entering the Game Jam, each participant releases and holds harmless organizer, its parents, subsidiaries, and affiliates, and each of their respective officers, directors, agents, and employees from any and all responsibility or liability arising out of or relating to: (i) any personal injury, death, property (including computer) damage, or other loss or claim of any kind arising from or in connection with any violation of these Official Rules; the Game Jam; the acceptance, possession, or use of any prize; or any travel required by the Game Jam; (ii) any entry or other materials that have been tampered with, that are misdirected, incomplete, incorrect, non-conforming, corrupt, lost, late, or ineligible, or, with respect to mail-in entries or materials, that are sent postage due; and (iii) computer, telephone, cable, satellite, network, hardware, software, or other technical malfunctions or failures; garbled or jumbled transmissions; Internet or website inaccessibility or delays; printing or typographical errors in any Game Jam materials; or any other technical or human errors occurring in connection with the Game Jam.

Frequently Asked Question (FAQ)



Q: I’m from outside South East Asia but holding a working permit in one of the South East Asia countries. May I enter the SEA Game Jam?
A: Yes.


Q: If I'm selected to participate in SEA Game Jam during Level UP KL 2016, do I have to bring my own computer or devices/console/handheld too?
A: Yes. The organizer will provide power sockets and internet connections for all participants. However you will need to bring your own PC, console, or any other devices required.


Q: Do the organizer provide accommodation, food and drinks?
A: The organizer will provide each participants with one Participation Kit which includes one sleeping bag and one limited edition t-shirt. There will be no accommodation provided, but there will be a sleeping area/space provided at the game jam site. There will be a free flow supply of foods and drinks through the event.


Q: What systems must the submitted game run on?
A: The SEA Game Jam officially supports any platform - PC, console, web, mobile, etc. Participants are required to provide the necessary hardware to be able to run/execute their game for the judging process.


Q: How does the SEA Game Jam judging process operate?
A: The SEA Game Jam judging process will be through an judging panel of approximately three (3) to seven (7) jurors appointed by the organizer. Members of the selection panel may include independent and professional game developers, notable video game journalists, and other individuals familiar with video game design, and will be chosen for their professional specialization or other suitability for the judging process. All results are final and within jurisdiction of the organizer.
